Cooperative Building Solutions designed and constructed a new District Office for Berkeley Electric Cooperative in John’s Island, South Carolina. Berkeley Electric Cooperative has grown into a state-of-the-art electric utility serving over 108,000 member accounts in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties with over 6,400 miles of line connecting them. This makes Berkeley Electric Cooperative the largest electric cooperative in South Carolina, and one of the top 25 in the nation.

The district office facility includes office space, vehicle storage, warehouse space, a maintenance building, and site improvements. It features hurricane-resistant design, storm-hardened rooms, and emergency spaces for long-term outages. Located in a high-seismic coastal zone, earthquake drains were installed to prevent soil liquefaction. Energy-efficient features include LED lighting, Variable Refrigerant HVAC, and insulated tilt-up concrete panels.
